In the United States, the number one cause of Sudden Cardiac Death in teenagers and young adults is a heart muscle disorder known as Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy or HCM. It usually manifests itself before age 20 and often strikes with no prior warning or symptoms in previously healthy young athletes.
HCM is the leading cause of Sudden Cardiac Death in teenagers and is nearly always detectable. Whether your student athlete competes in sports, is a member of a marching band or is on the cheerleading squad, he/she is at risk.
The High School Athlete Cardiac Screening Center of South Florida is dedicated to preventing teen deaths from HCM by screening young athletes for this condition, thereby avoiding the fate of those who never had a warning.
The High School Athlete Cardiac Screening Center of South Florida is an affiliate of Boca Delray Cardiology Center, a medical/cardiology practice.
